Welcome to Religious Studies

The award-winning faculty and students in the Department of Religious Studies undertake academic research into the religions and cultures of the world. Unique at Queen's, the department houses experts on China, India and the Middle East, and has research links to universities across the world.

In addition to this strength in the world's major religions and cultures, faculty and students also focus on the contemporary Canadian religious landscape. With substantial government funding they are investigating the ways religions influence Canadian public policy and how Canada's religious landscape is changing as a result of immigration and globalization.

Our faculty and students also investigate challenging theoretical questions with practical consequences: Do religions promote violence? What is the place of religion in democratic states? Do religions have a role to play in the transition to an ecologically sustainable economy?

We offer minor, medial and major concentrations for undergraduate students, a wide range of popular elective courses and a unique and innovative one-year MA program in religion and modernity. We welcome you in our mission to advance knowledge of the world's religions and cultures at one of Canada's leading research universities.
